21. 다음 글의 요지로 가장 적절한 것은?


The negative effects of extrinsic motivators such as grades have been documented with students from different cultures. Although this matter is more complex than simply regarding all extrinsic rewards such as controlling or diminishing learning, we agree with Richard Ryan and his colleagues that people across different cultures are likely to express more satisfaction with their lives when their primary goals are intrinsic rather than extrinsic. Another consistent research finding is that when a learning activity is undertaken explicitly to attain some extrinsic reward, people respond by seeking the least demanding way of ensuring the reward. Since there are three decades of evidence that dominating instruction with a system of controlling extrinsic rewards may contribute to inferior learning, using a pedagogy based on theories of intrinsic motivation appears to be a more reasonable and effective approach to enhancing learning among culturally diverse students.

6. 단순화 해석

외적 동기들은 나쁠 수 있다.

(다른 문화의) 사람들의 주된(?) 목표가 내적 동기라면, 그 사람들은 그 사람들의 삶에 더욱 만족을 느낄 것이다.


외적 보상과 함께 하는 학습은 나쁠 수 있다.

내적 동기와 함께 하는 학습은 좋을 수 있다.

8. 문제

이 문제의 질문은 ”이 글의 핵심과 가장 가까운 문장을 찾으라는 것입니다.” 즉 맞거나 틀린 문장을 찾으라는 것이 아닌 모호한 질문입니다. 또한 문단 속에 문장 또한 헷갈립니다.

문단에 있는 문장들 중 #1과 #3는 배움”에 관해 말하고 있습니다. 그런데 그 중간에 갑자기 ”자신의 가장 중요한 목표가 ___일 때 자신의 삶에 만족을 느낀다고 쓰여 있습니다.

그렇다면 배움뿐만 아니라 삶에 관한 보상을 얘기하고 있으니 답이 ⑤ "내적 동기 부여가 문화적 배경이 다른 학생들의 교육 (왜 갑자기 배움에서 교육?)에 효과적이다." 이라고 확신을 할 수가 없습니다.


대학 교수들을 포함한 수능 문제 출제자들이 실수로 질문을 모호하게 만들리는 없습니다. 그렇다면 ”일부러" 모호하게 만드는 이유는 아마도 문제를 어렵게 만들어서 학생들의 점수에 영향을 끼치게 했다고 생각합니다.


9. 문제 #2

대학수학능력시험의 목적은 ”대학 교육에 필요한 수학 능력 측정"입니다. 또한 고등학교 교육과정의 내용과 수준이 맞는 문제를 출제 한다고 나와 있습니다 (시험개요, n.d.). 그렇지만 단어 ”extrinsic motivator”와 “intrinsic motivator”는 대부분의 미국/캐나다 공립학교에 존재하지 않는 심리학 수업의 교재에서 나오는 단어입니다. 예를 들자면 캐나다의 몇몇 대학교에서 1학년 교재로 사용하는 Peter Grey의 ”Psychology” 6장에 나오는 ”Mechanisms of Motivation, Sleep and Emotion”입니다 (Peter Grey Psychology, n.d.). 도대체 미국/캐나다 교육과정에 없는 과목의 단어들이 왜 한국의 수능 영어 문제로 출제될까요? 물론 영어 신문이나 사설 아니면 학술지를 읽는 학생들이라면 알 수 있는 단어입니다. 하지만 한국의 고등학생들은 국어, 수학, 영어, 그리고 선택과목에서 거의 만점을 목표로 공부해야 하니 잠도 하루에 4~5시간밖에 못 잡니다. 잠 잘 시간도 없는데 언제 학술지를 읽고 있겠습니까?

이 문제는 수능에서 배제되었어야 하는 문제였습니다.
